Howard Beckwith
Q: Howard, can you walk us through your journey in the insurance industry?
Absolutely. I’ve been in the industry for over 25 years now, with the last 19 spent at Travelers. I’ve grown through a variety of specialty underwriting roles, each one offering new challenges and opportunities to lead. Today, I serve as the Regional Vice President for Construction, Energy & Marine in the Mid-Atlantic region, where I set strategy and support the growth and development of our business lines.
Q: What has been most rewarding about your leadership journey?
Seeing teams thrive. I’m passionate about developing high-performing talent and fostering a collaborative culture. It’s incredibly rewarding to help others grow professionally while contributing to the company’s long-term success.
Q: You're involved with several professional organizations, why is that important to you?
Giving back to the industry is something I take seriously. I currently serve on the boards of the Charlotte Chapter of NAAIA and the Brantley Risk & Insurance Center at Appalachian State University. These roles allow me to support the next generation of insurance professionals and help shape a more inclusive industry.
Q: Tell us a bit about your educational background and what brought you to Charlotte.
I graduated from Rowan University in New Jersey in 2000 with a degree in Business Administration. In 2015, I relocated to Charlotte after spending most of my life in the NY/NJ/PA area. It’s been a great move, both personally and professionally.
Q: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love being outdoors. My wife Rachel and I spend time hiking with our dog Sadie. I also enjoy live music, reading, volunteering, and of course; travel.
Q: Any advice for those building careers in insurance today?
Stay curious, stay collaborative, and never stop investing in your own development. The industry is evolving, and those who lead with integrity and adaptability will always find ways to succeed.
